Hybrid Electric Vehicles & Gas Ratings

Posted by: admin on Thursday, September 13th, 2007

I recently finished a series of articles on hybrid vehicles .  A lot of good information is available, and it is surprising how economical they can be run.  A lot of them, however, leave a lot to be desired in terms of both affordability and the nusiance of keeping them driveable.

I did an article on hybrid electric vehicles, and sent it off last night.  Here is a good choice for those who wish a convenient car that is eco-friendly.  While researching the article, I found that the guidelines used for mileage are a bit antiquated.

New Ratings

the old guidelines did not take into consideration such things as hard acceleration, the use of air conditioning, and the extremes in climate - either exctreme heat or cold.  Now, this has been updated.

The Winner?

The Toyota Prius is the clear winner under new guidelines.  It has a mileage rating of  48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway driving.  Under the old guidelines, the car got a rating of 55 city and 60 highway.  quite a difference, but it still makes the Toyota Prius a very good value, indeed…

Drive on
