Global Warming - Fact or Myth?

As in every controversy, there are two camps. The same is true concerning global warming. Al Gore has been blasted for his documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and many others call the concept of global warming hogwash.

This morning, I read a post at The Huffington Post that spoke to global warming. The post, written by Laurie Davis, is about a children’s book, The Down To Earth Guide to Global Warming that Laurie co-authored with Cami Gordon. Her post went on to claim that the book was attacked by the Science and Public Policy Institute. Their attempt to discredit the book came from the group studying the over 100 pages of the book and finding one illustration that was mislabeled. Think about that…

The two authors have taken critical research and turned it into a book for kids so that they too can become more aware of the effects of global warming. I would think that it is a good thing. We cannot ignore this issue any longer, people.

I am no scientist. I make no claims to be. My thoughts on global warming come from spending 64 years on the great blue orb in the sky. I have seen the weather change drastically in my time, and can read facts and figures on air pollution. I have seen the smog of LA, even back in the early 60’s. I have researched and written on the problems of everything from dog waste to the number of tons of packaging materials we throw into landfills on a daily basis for a popular website. So I think I have a pretty good idea of what is going on. To see a children’s book, that can only be helpful to educate children about the threat of global warming, makes my blood run cold.

I suppose an old man like me could just put his head in the sand, and figure hey! I am gonna be dead in a few years, so who cares? But then, I think about my children and grandchildren. I hope soon to be thinking of great grandchildren, and then I think of our legacy to them. And that is what makes me take a stance on global warming…

Drive on,

Charlie~
