Finding A Local Harvest

In my post yesterday I talked about the 100 Mile Diet, and how to approach it. I have been giving a lot of thought to this, and, as I have an inquiring mind, spent some time researching local farms that can help me in my quest to walk the walk.

I visited Local Harvest today, and find that they have much to offer to both the vegetarian and the folks looking to eat local produce.  There is a lot there to read about and take action on.

One thing I found interesting was advice on Community Supported Agriculture.  In this case, farmers offer produce subscriptions, where buyers receive a weekly or monthly basket of produce, flowers, fruits, eggs and milk.  Different levels of participation are available, depending on the size of family.  this gives me many ideas for my community, and plans are in the works to approach the weekly paper to publish going green articles and resources.  (My Rosie thinks I should be a community activist! :D).

One thing very useful on the site is an interactive map that allows you to find local farmers who participate in both CSA’s and have produce for sale that is both locally grown and organic - just the ticket for an old vegetarian like me.  I came from the farm, and struggle daily because I want to grow things…

I suggest you check out Local Harvest.  If you care about this planet and want locally grown produce - even local meat - then Local harvest can help you find what you need.

Drive on,

Charlie~
